You're certified — now what? The Advanced Adventure Diver course lets you explore five different dive specialties and unlock the next level of your diving journey, all in one program.
What's Included
You'll complete five specialty dives — two required and three of your choice. Here's what you can pick from:

How It Works
- 01 Complete Your Knowledge Quests OnlineStudy each of your five chosen specialties at your own pace. Pass with 80% or higher — your instructor will review anything you need to revisit.
- 02 Complete Your Deep Diver Specialty DiveDive to a planned depth up to 30m/100ft. Practice equipment checks, depth management, and a safe ascent to your safety stop.
- 03 Complete Your Navigation Specialty DivePractice compass navigation patterns including out-and-back, squares, and triangles — both on the surface and on the bottom.
- 04 Complete Your Three Chosen Specialty DivesEach dive introduces you to a different area of diving — one open water dive per specialty, giving you a real taste of what each course offers.
- 05 Earn Your CertificationSuccessfully complete all five dives and knowledge requirements to earn your SDI Advanced Adventure Diver certification — and unlock the path to Rescue Diver.

Prerequisites
- SDI Open Water Scuba Diver certification or equivalent
- Minimum age 18 (10 with parental consent for junior-approved specialties)
Junior divers (ages 10–15): Deep diving max depth is 21m/70ft. Dry suit minimum age 12. Wreck limited penetration minimum age 15.
Common Questions
Does this count toward full specialty certifications?
Yes — the dive completed for each specialty during this course can apply toward completing that full specialty certification later on.
Do I have to choose my specialties in advance?
Deep Diver and Navigation Diver are required for all students. You choose the remaining three from the available list. We're happy to help you decide based on your goals and interests.
Is this the same as an Advanced Open Water certification?
It's SDI's equivalent program. The SDI Advanced Adventure Diver is globally recognized and designed to give you a well-rounded introduction to advanced diving areas — just like the PADI Advanced Open Water, but with SDI's modern approach.
What happens after I complete this course?
You'll be eligible to enroll in the SDI Rescue Diver course — one of the most rewarding and skill-building courses in all of scuba diving. You can also pursue any of the full specialty courses you sampled.
Do I need my own gear?
No — all scuba equipment is provided. You don't need to own anything to get started.
