SDI Deep Diver

Go deeper. Wall dives, shipwrecks, and underwater life that never comes into the shallows — it all starts at 60 feet and beyond. This course gives you the skills, knowledge, and certification to dive down to 130 feet safely and confidently.

If you're a certified diver who's felt limited by the 60-foot Open Water ceiling, this is your next step. The SDI Deep Diver course is built for divers who want to explore more of the underwater world — and do it right.

  • Deep dive planning — depth, time, and gas management

In-Water Skills

  • Equipment checks — depth gauges, bottom timers, computers
  • Controlled descent to planned depth with no limit violations

Safer Deep Diving

You'll understand the physics and risks at depth — narcosis, gas management, emergency procedures — so you dive smarter, not just deeper.

How many dives are required?

Two open water dives are required. Dive 1 goes to a maximum of 30m/100ft and Dive 2 goes to the full 40m/130ft limit. Both include specific skills and an emergency scenario assigned by your instructor.

Where are open water dives conducted?

We use local Texas dive sites with sufficient depth — including sites near Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. We'll coordinate the right site based on your location and availability.

Do I need special equipment for deep diving?

A dive computer capable of tracking depth and time is essential. The course covers equipment considerations in detail. We'll go over exactly what you need when you register.

Should I take Nitrox before or after Deep Diver?

Many divers pair these two together — Nitrox extends your no-decompression limits at depth, which makes deep diving safer and more flexible. Ask us about taking both in the same training block.

Does this count toward SDI Master Diver?

Yes — Deep Diver is one of the qualifying specialty certifications for the SDI Master Diver rating. It's also included as a bonus specialty in our Go Pro Program.

"Absolutely the best scuba training experience. Small groups made all the difference."
