Who it's for

This course builds on prior certification and experience — here's what you'll need before you start.

SDI Open Water Scuba Diver, SDI Junior Open Water Diver, or equivalentBase certification required

What you'll learn

Knowledge Development

Navigation: compass use, estimating distances, and natural navigation
Limited visibility diving: factors affecting visibility, hazards, and diving techniques
Search techniques: shotgun, circular, grid, and current (overlap) search, plus signals for search diving
Salvage techniques: depth considerations, lift bags, lifting drums, necessary qualities of lifting devices, knots and rigging, fill techniques, and mud/silt suction considerations

Practical Training

Reviewing compass techniques and search techniques
Practicing and performing different search patterns and lifting techniques
Recovering an object from depth
Salvage and recovery of an object with a water weight between 11 and 33 kg/25 and 75 lbs
Simulating a scuba emergency using a minimum of 2 searching techniques
Logging dives
