What you'll learn

Knowledge Development

Dive planning: map of shore, compass review, and navigation
Emergency procedures: surface emergencies (no scuba), scuba emergencies, rescue procedures, and review of lifesaving skills
Shore diving procedures: set-up, navigation aids, land marks, and site assessment
Special procedures, such as keeping water in fin pockets to wash sand off feet
Diving procedures: use of the dive flag, float handling and line attachment, surf zone considerations, and buddy procedures
Activity applications: underwater collecting and hunting, photography, and wreck diving

Practical Training

Site selection and dive planning
Assess current site conditions and anticipate changes
Navigation review and use of compass underwater
Surf procedure practice
Descend and ascend procedures with float control
Return-to-beach exit technique

Frequently asked questions

It's different — not harder. Shore diving requires more planning and site awareness (reading surf, timing entries and exits, navigating back to your exit point) but removes the logistics of boat scheduling and charter costs. This course teaches you exactly what to look for and how to handle it.
