Who it's for

This course builds on prior certification and experience — here's what you'll need before you start.

SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalentAny recognized entry-level certification

What you'll learn

Knowledge Development

Pressure review, ascent and descent rates
Hypothermia, hyperthermia and the mental side of technical diving
Equipment options: single or double cylinders and valves, regulators, harness and wing, computers and bottom timers, reels, spools, SMBs and lift bags
Minimum equipment, streamlining and stowing
Dive planning with tables or a computer
Surface air consumption (SAC) and minimum gas reserve calculations
Entry, exit, ascent, descent and gas-failure strategies

In-Water Skills

Equipment selection, preparation and gas matching with your team
The S.T.A.R.T. pre-dive sequence before every dive
Weight check, motionless hover and horizontal trim
Frog, modified frog, modified flutter and back kicks
Regulator exchange and recovery while holding trim
Mask flood, removal and clear with minimal air loss
S-drill gas sharing in mid-water
Valve drill when diving doubles
Surface marker buoy or lift bag deployment in trim
Situational awareness on every dive

Frequently asked questions

Not required. Intro to Tech can be taught on a technical single-cylinder rig or on doubles. If you dive doubles you will also complete the valve drill. We will help you choose the configuration that fits where you want to go next.
